The practice aims to provide appointments for all patients as soon as possible. NHS 111 & Emergencies
111 is the NHS non-emergency number. It’s fast, easy and free. Call 111 and speak to a highly trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals. They will ask you a series of questions to assess your symptoms and immediately direct you to the best medical care for you. NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones. Call NHS 111 if:
You think you need to go to A & E or need another NHS urgent care service
You don’t know who to call or you don’t have a GP
You need health information or reassurance about what to do next

Alternatives to A & E
During the year many people pick up an illness or injury. If it happens to you and you need medical help, there is a range of services to choose from. Choosing the right one will make sure that you get the treatment you need quickly.
A & E – Only use A & E for choking, chest pain, loss of consciousness, severe blood loss, broken bones, deep wounds or suspected stroke.
NHS Walk-in-Centre – For treatment of minor injuries. You can phone The Haywood Walk-in-Centre for advice on 01782 673500, or call in without an appointment.
Hanley GP led Health & Wellbeing Centre – GPs and Nurse Practitioners there for health advice, health checks and treatment of illness and minor illnesses. 0300 123 6759.

Your GP – For medical advice, examinations and prescriptions for illnesses you just can’t shake off.
When your surgery is closed – for non emergency urgent care dial 111 via the new NHS 111 service (there is no charge for the call)
Pharmacist – for advice on common winter illnesses and the best medicines to treat them.
Self-care – for treatment of minor illnesses, by combining a well stocked medicine cabinet with plenty of rest.
Local Pharmacies As well as dispensing prescriptions your local pharmacist can give you lots of advice on common conditions such as aches, colds, sore throats, skin conditions, allergies and rashes.

Step 3 – if you require help outside of these hours you can call 111, your call will be triaged and if necessary you be seen at a local Health Centre.
Walk in Centre’s/Urgent Treatment Centre All Healthcare Professionals who cover this extended service will have access to your full medical records with your consent. You can go to an urgent treatment centre (UTC) if you need urgent medical attention, but it’s not a life-threatening situation. Your nearest local walk in centres are:
